Well, I am still fuming a little about what happened to us when we took our daughter to the ER but the good news is Angela is feeling better.

Anyway, one of our favorite things to do, aside from playing instruments, is watching movies. My daughter is particularly fond of watching Disney animated movies so I decided to make a list of what movies under the Disney production we've watched so far. If you're a parent I hope this list will help you choose which kid-friendly movies to watch with your kids.

Here we go:

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
Fantasia
Fantasia 2000
Dumbo
Bambi
Cinderella 1 & 2
Alice In Wonderland
Peter Pan 1 & 2
Lady And The Tramp 1 & 2
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmatians
The Jungle Book
The Aristocats
Robin Hood
The Fox And The Hound
The Little Mermaid 1 & 2
Beauty And The Beast
Beauty And The Beast Enchanted Christmas
Aladdin 1, 2 & 3
The Lion King 1 & 2
Pocahontas 1 & 2
The Hunchback Of Notre Dame 1 & 2
Hercules
Mulan 1 & 2
Lilo And Stitch
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Finding Nemo
Monsters Inc.
Toy Story 1
A Bug's Life
The Wild
Tarzan & Jane

I'm sure this list will grow What is your favorite Disney animated movie?

Day 1 of Detox

October 24th 2006 01:28

This is harder than i thought.

Well, we've managed to get through day one of our mild detox. We had tuna, brown rice and green tea for breakfast, then salmon brown rice and green tea for lunch. I snacked on sunflower seeds and aloe vera juice to keep hunger at bay. For dinner we had a salad composed of romaine, carrots, apples and sunflower seeds.

What i find most difficult is that I have to prepare two seperate meals - one for us and one for our daughter. Much as I like to include my daughter in the detox, it is not advisable for young children. So I have to add certain foods to her meals to give her the nutrients she needs, foods which me and hubby aren't allowed to eat this week. Talk about temptation!

But so far, so good. What suprised me is that the sunflower seeds are tasty and filling, plus the aloe vera juice tastes good too.

I found some interesting facts about bid=57" target="_blank">sunflower seeds and aloe vera juice.

We are eating mostly organic foods by the way. Any suggestions on other healthy snacks?

Have you ever done a detox?

I ask this because my husband and I are going to attempt the impossible - we are going on a mild detox for a week. Yep, mild as opposed to total detox simply because we are wimps Just kidding, we didn't want to overwhelm our bodies so we decided to start out mildly. This means we won't be eating any meat, poultry, dairy and other foods high in fat, sugar and carbs. Our whole diet will now consist mostly of veggies, fruits and moderate servings of seafoods such as salmon and tuna. We are also changing our cooking oil from canola to extra virgin olive oil and our rice from white to brown.

We will be trying this for a week and then slowly extend it until we get used to our new diet.I think the biggest problem I will face is caffeine withdrawal - no coffee, diet soda and chocolates is just too much for me to think about right now. But we really need to change our diet because we've gained weight over the past 2 years, I think i gained around 20 pounds. And we also don't feel as healthy as we used to, we get tired easily.

Gifted children and their parents needs support in order to further understand the needs of a gifted child as well as to learn how to properly parent them. For this joining local organizations geared towards gifted children and their guardians is an excellent way of meeting new friends while learning at the same time. Here are some organizations you may want to join:

PTA's

This evening my husband and I went to a Parent-Teachers Meeting, the teachers discussed the different ways we can help our kids develop study habits at home. They also presented how the Direct Instruction method is implemented to teach Reading, Math and Language.

Going to Parent-Teacher meetings and being a part of the PTA is very important if you want your child to be successful in school. In meetings such as these both teachers and parents can collaborate on how to better support students and discuss pertinent issues.

Weekly Book List

October 18th 2006 00:45
Every Saturday, my daughter and I visit our local public library and pick out 6 books to read for the week. We've been doing this since she was 41/2 and it has been both a fun and educational activity for both of us. Some of the books we pick are easy readers, ones which she can read on her own. We also pick out books that are more difficult, these are the ones I read to her before going to bed.

I thought it would be nice to share our weekly book list and hopefully this will be of help to other parents out there in choosing books for their children.

Moving again....sigh..

October 15th 2006 22:32

So we're moving again, this will be our fourth move in two years. The first one was the biggest move we ever made and the hardest - we moved from the country we grew up in to the US. Then we stayed 6 months in a house which we shared with my husband's co-worker, then we moved to an apartment near the beach and we've been living here for a year and two months. But we will once again move by the end of this month to a bigger place.

Although i'm excited about moving to a new and bigger place I'm really not looking forward to the packing, unpacking, loading and unloading of all the stuff we've accumulated. Another thing is I feel a bit guilty because my daughter has already made friends here and once we move she won't be seeing her friends as often as she used to.

Who is the Better Person? Part 2

October 14th 2006 15:49
A bitmap image my daughter made today. Heck, I don't even know how to do this
For those who are waiting for the second part of this story, here it is.

A few hours later my neighbor stopped by my house again to return the money. By that time my companions have gone home. She thanked me profusely and told me to extend her thanks to the guy who lent her money. I assured her I will.

This is based on a true story:

One lazy and humid afternoon I was chatting away with two acquaintances. Acquaintance A is very successful in her career and is a very religious person. Acquaintance B s currently out of work and rarely goes to church.

The plan is that my child will be included in a pull-out program for gifted children. This means, for a total of 180 minutes a week, my child will go to a class for gifted students. The rest of the time will be spent in her regular class. Evidently, this is how the GATE program in our area is structured.

In a way I like the idea of non-acceleration because my daughter may be smart but emotionally she's still a six year old. Spending some time in a regular class than in a gifted class may help give her a well-rounded personality. My main concern is, if she'll be able to get the intellectual stimulation she needs.

From PreK to K

October 6th 2006 23:20
We love going to the beach, there's so much to discover there.
My daughter is now in First Grade and is going to a traditional school. But here's another guide I wrote back when we were still homeschooling.

One of the joys of homeschooling is that you're not limited to a specified set of curriculum or academic goal. You can choose what subjects you want to teach and what your child is interested in. of course, reading, penmanship and math must always be included.

Violence in Schools

October 5th 2006 00:25
As a parent I expect that when I drop off my child at school she will be safe and cared for by trained individuals. But sometimes the greatest tragedies that happen in school are caused either by outsiders or fellow students.

Such is the case of what happened recently in an Amish school. I mean if these people who live simply cannot be safe, what more are the kids who go to public schools?

Coming Up With A Daily Schedule

October 1st 2006 18:55
Some of the books we used for PreK
Here's another guide I wrote for those thinking of homeschooling their gifted children.

Most newbie homeschoolers start out with a specific schedule, mine would rival that of a traditional school, lol. I think this is mainly because when I was first starting out I wasn't that confident so I tried to tailor it to the way I learned when I was in school.
