Does our schools make our children obese?

September 28th 2007 21:19
A study published on the American Journal of Preventative Medicine indicates that schools may be contributing to children's obesity by making high-fat foods, softdrinks and other junk food available in school cafeterias. They also mention that less physical education activities add to the problem.

A Question on Scholarships

September 19th 2007 01:14
I have an extremely bright 15-year old nephew who goes to school under a scholarship. This is a real blessing for him because his dad (my brother) simply cannot afford to pay for tuition given his income.

But there are also smart kids who come from well-to-do families who may also avail of such scholarships. In your opinion should scholarships be given to individuals based on good academic record, financial capability or both?

Here's an article from TIME that is related to this topic.

Gifted Child Singer

September 11th 2007 02:03
We see many young children who can sing quite beautifully, little children with big voices so to speak. Personally though I prefer kids who sound like, well, a kid, and sing pieces that are appropriate for their age. Such is the case with Connie Talbot, the little girl who wowed viewers of Britain's Got Talent.

September 3rd 2007 23:08
I allow my daughter access to the internet either to do research or to play games. I do monitor her when she's online 'cause you never know what will pop up on the screen. Here are some online games we've discovered that gives kids freedom to create, explore and be imaginative.

I found this very old yet still interesting video documentary on gifted children. Watch Part 1 and Part 2 below, notice how different teachers and students were as compared to educators and children today.
