Gifted Parenting - October 2007

Why do you blog?

October 27th 2007 22:20
Blogging networks are sprouting like daisies in springtime and many writers are itching to get started blogging. In truth though, blogging takes a lot of commitment, like a child you must nurture your blog so that it can grow. That's why before signing up for a blog or sending in that application to be a blogger, one must ask him/herself:

Why do I want to blog?
What do I expect from my blog?
How often can I blog?

Unfortunately when I applied to be a blogger on Orble I didn't take the time to ponder these questions. Yes I did blog religiously at first, I love my topic and I enjoyed the community here on Orble. But at the back of my mind I also wanted to earn money - fast. And when this didn't happen I was of course disheartened and my commitment to blogging wavered.

So I'm sitting here asking myself do I still want to continue GiftedParenting or shall I bid it goodbye? And my answer is.....I'm sticking around. This is my baby and I can't let it go (for now, at least). I guess I should focus more on what this blog can do for others rather than what this blog can do for me.

Just want to say Kudos to all Orblers who have been blogging steadfastly. And please whack me on my virtual head if you notice me procrastinating again.

So why do you blog?

I've received a very good tip from a realtor which I want to share with you guys: When buying a house it is wise to checkout the quality of schools in the area.

This is because, aside from the educational benefits to your child, the value of homes in an area where there's good education programs will have less chances of depreciating. This means if in the future you plan to sell your home it won't be as difficult and the profit might also be considerable.

So how do you determine if the school in a certain location is excellent?

learn what the SAT scores are from that school

set an appointment with the principal to learn what the school has to offer

visit the school so you can see first-hand what the school looks like, the classrooms, facilities, etc.

ask about the school curriculum and programs,

talk to teachers, students and parents whose kids go there

In short, do your research before buying a property in that area.
