Cool Video of the Week

November 30th 2007 02:47
I love Trans-Siberian Orchestra and I also love watching Christmas lights shows. In comes Carson Williams who 2 years ago created a frenzy with the Christmas lights display at his residence. I wonder what he's planning to do this year? And I also wonder how much his power bill was?

Watch this video where he synchronized the lights to the tune of "Carol of the Bells" performed by Trans Siberian Orchestra.

How to make family time more fun

November 29th 2007 01:41
Hubby and I have an understanding that he can work as hard as he can, plus overtime if he wants to, during the weekdays. But come weekend, it's family time. If he doesn't adhere to this policy, there will be hell to pay - or maybe doing dishes for a week.

But sometimes weekends can also be a time of tense negotiations in order to determine where to go or what to do. Well, two weekends ago, our super-savvy seven year old (say that 10 times) came up with a great plan. Each family member will be assigned one weekend when they are free to decide what activity the family should do.

After a unanimous decision we put the new policy into action and for the first weekend kiddo got to choose. She opted to go to the beach on Saturday and then to the mall on Sunday - which we did. The following weekend was my turn and of course I wanted to go to Home Depot and kick-start our Christmas decorating. On Sunday we went to the movies. (Note: Bee Movie = Funny!)

This weekend will be hubby's turn and I'm starting to wonder what his plans are, I hope it's not alphabetizing his reference books

Planning activities based on each family member's interest is a great way to honor their individuality while spending quality time with the whole gang. You'll also be surprised at what you learn about someone you thought you already knew.

Speaking of fun, visit Amateur Artists' blog, he just posted some cool flash animations on his site.

What's your yearly Christmas tradition?

November 26th 2007 02:12
Family traditions are a great way of building lasting memories and sharing bonding moments with our loved ones. When I was young my parents would buy us new clothes to wear on Christmas day and invite family and friends over for lunch. The table was filled with all sorts of delicious entrees with heaveny desserts afterwards.

When my daughter was 4 years old, I thought of having our own Christmas tradition. I wanted something that would be both fun and memorable while helpiing impart important lessons to my child. It was then that I thought of volunteering to become bell ringers for the Salvation Army. So each year, since 2004, during the Christmas season, we don on our Salvation Army aprons and ring the bells in order to seek donations for the less privileged. My whole family joins in this tradition and I tell ya, it feels really good to do something special for others. My daughter is also learning the importance of compassion, caring and generosity.

Emily Bear: Piano Prodigy

November 17th 2007 04:41
Emily Bear was 2 years old and still in diapers when her mom took her to see Emilio del Rosario; a respected music teacher. Imagine his amazement when he saw the toddler play the piano with such proficiency. Now 6 years old, Emily continues to improve and astonish people with her gift of playing the piano. She recently appeared on the Ellen Show and boy she is indeed very talented, to say the least, and so adorable. She can even compose her own songs in just a few minutes.

Here's a video of her appearance on Ellen:

Cool Video of the Week

November 9th 2007 03:28
This one is a video of the Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG). Sigh, I wish we had enough money so I can send my daughter to their summer program. For other parents with gifted kids, keep SIG in mind when thinking of summer plans for next year.
