Sniffles and Such

October 29th 2008 12:41
I've been AWOL from the blogging world for a few days because my daughter has benn sick. She's feeling much better now and hopefully will be able to go trick or treating on Friday. She's been looking forward to that, in fact, we already got her a costume a month ago. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll be back to her usual energetic self come Friday.

Okay, while I was typing I felt the whole house start shaking......I think we're having an earthquake...Be back later.

I'm back. It was an earthquake alright, it was a bit strong but lasted only a few seconds. Phew! Earthquakes are really common where we live, it still shocks me though and I know I'll never get used to it. Mother Nature really is unpredictable, so we should always be prepared.

Uhm, I've lost my train of thought because of the earthquake, sorry about that. I know I was talking about my daughter (who is already asleep - thank God!) but now all I can think about is where the center of the earthquake originated and how strong it was. I do hope nobody got hurt.

Boo! It's Halloween!

October 23rd 2008 02:39
This year my daughter is dressing up as a fairy for Halloween. She's been asking me and her dad if we could also wear costumes (we've never done so before). We're still unsure though what we'll wear if we do decide to follow our daughter's suggestion, but I think it would be hilarious if we did. Who, or sould I say, what will you be this Halloween?

Here are some educational links to Halloween facts, lesson plans and activities:

Cole Comes Home

October 22nd 2008 00:38
I can only imagine the horror this little boy went through after being abducted from his home. Cole Puffinburger was taken from his home by 2 suspected drug dealers, leaving his mom and her boyfriend bound and gagged. The abduction is believed to be in connection to Cole's grandfather who apparently stole money from the drug dealers.

Thankfully, the people who abducted Cole set him free and the boy was later found by a bus driver in Las Vegas. I'm so amazed at this little boy's courage, he reportedly approached a bus driver and asked the driver to take him home. He was then taken to a hospital where doctors examined him. Reports said the boy was physically unharmed. No doubt that this incident has been traumatic for him though.

Where is Caylee?

October 20th 2008 05:11
I've been keeping a close eye on this case involving a young mother, Casey Anthony, and her missing 3 year old daughter, Caylee. The toddler has been missing since June and to date has not been found. What really struck me about this case is the peculiar way Casey has acted since the disappearance of her child. I believe in giving a person the benefit of the doubt, but if you've been following this case, I'm pretty sure you too are starting to question her innocence. The way events have unraveled these past few months does paint Casey in a bad picture.

Recently, Casey Anthony has been charged with a seven-count indictment, including first-degree murder. I sincerely hope, for the sake of the missing little girl, that her mother is innocent and that Caylee will come home to her family soon.

Today's gifted news...

October 13th 2008 15:36
Read this story about a five year old boy from Vietnam who is intellectually advanced for his age. I do hope his parents find a school that will address this boys needs. This story leaves me wondering...is there a school or a program for gifted children in Vietnam?

I figured why not share these links that will help us and our children learn more about money and how to properly handle our finances. You can use these resources as lesson plan ideas or for personal use. With everything that's going on with our economy right now, we need to learn how to spend our hard-earned cash wisely (well, at least I do).

"A Bride for Henry"

October 2nd 2008 03:02
What do you do if, on the day of your wedding, your groom fails to show up? This classic film which was released in 1937 stars Anne Nagel (as Shiela, the jilted bride), Henry Mollison (Eric, the MIA groom) and Warren Hull (as Henry, Shiela's lawyer and stand-in groom who is secretly in love with her).

Don't you just love these classic romcoms?

The Solar System

My young daughter is very interested in science, the solar system to be exact. When her dad went on a trip to N.Y. he brought back a nice gift - a 3D Adventure Projector from National Geographic. The kit contains several slides, 3D glasses, a projector plus a DVD that narrates the voyage. What you do is pop the DVD in the player, get the projector and slides ready, turn off the lights and put on the 3D glasses as you travel to each planet of the solar system. Way cool.
