They say you can learn a lot about a person from what she is reading. The nifty tool you see below is from LibraryThings.Com; a website that enables you to create your own reading list and connect with people who are reading the same books. You can also post your list on your blog or website. Judging from the books I'm reading, what do you think I'm up to?
If you're looking for a book to read to your daughter before bedtime while imparting important lessons from the Bible, the "Little Girls Bible Storybook" is one that I would recommend.
The particular book we have is meant for fathers to read to their daughter/s, with easy to understand text by Carolyn Larsen and cute illustrations by Caron Turk. The book has 50 bible stories starting off with the story of Adam and Eve. After each story there are suggested activities that will foster reflection, sharing and dialogue between father and daughter. There is also a verse to remember after every story.
The "Little Girls Bible Storybook" is distributed by Baker Books and sells for $16.99. They also have one for Mothers and Daughters, more details here.
It's been a pretty hectic week for me and as a result I've been neglecting this blog for a few days. So to make up for lost time...here are 4 days worth of blog entries in 1 post.
My husband and I both love to read and we've passed on this passion to our child. There is no denying that learning to read is important, moreover finding the appropriate books to read is equally important. If you have preschoolers at home reading to them regularly is a great way to introduce them to books. Start them off with books like the following:
ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY
The Caldecott Medal is given each year since 1938 to illustrators of children's picture books in America. The said award was named after Randolph Caldecott, who was an illustrator himself. This award is given annually by the Association for Library Service to Children.
This year the winner is David Wiesner who illustrated the picture book "Flotsam". Past winners include the following:
Every Saturday, my daughter and I visit our local public library and pick out 6 books to read for the week. We've been doing this since she was 41/2 and it has been both a fun and educational activity for both of us. Some of the books we pick are easy readers, ones which she can read on her own. We also pick out books that are more difficult, these are the ones I read to her before going to bed.
I thought it would be nice to share our weekly book list and hopefully this will be of help to other parents out there in choosing books for their children.
