Disney's Magic Kingdom

Our next stop at Walt Disney World was Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom was the first theme park built at the said resort and it opened in 1971. Here is where you meet your favorite Disney characters; from Mickey to Ariel. To reach the park you can either ride the ferry, or if you're in a hurry, the monorail.

Magic Kingdom represents what Disney is all about, and that is capturing the wonders of childhood. This is probably why it is the most popular theme park in the world. In fact, we had to visit Magic Kingdom twice because the lines were longer and the weather remained uncooperative.

RIDES/ATTRACTIONS WE EXPERIENCED:

Walt Disney World Railroad
A train ride that will take you to Frontierland and Mickey's ToonTown Fair. Why walk when you can ride in style?

Swiss Family Treehouse
Climb up a treehouse and see how the Swiss Family Robinson lived. Compared to Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) on Cast Away, I'd say the Robinson's had it good.

Jungle Cruise
Traverse into the jungle's deepest, darkest secrets as you go on a riverboat ride filled with surprises at every turn. I liked this one but since I was sitting at the far end of the boat, I couldn't hear the guide very well.

Pirates of the Caribbean
This classic boat ride features Captain Jack Sparrow, a slew of pirates and other Audio-Animatronic characters singing "Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Me!" Really liked this one too, waiting in line was worth it.

Splash Mountain
My fave! Yet another boat ride, but Splash Mountain will leave you breathless and soaked. The last part of the ride is the most thrilling - 5 stories worth of free fall into the cold water below. Would've loved to go on this ride again but the line was too long. There's a camera positioned just as your boat plunges, capturing each passenger's reaction. I saw my photo and of course my mouth was wide open. So here's a tip, however terrified you are, when you get to the top of that free fall - smile.

Liberty Square Riverboat
Yes, it's another boat ride, or rather, a steam ship ride that takes you around the Rivers of America. This one is a perfect breather in between rides and a chance to rest those aching feet.

The Haunted Mansion
Another one of my faves. Based on the movie starring Eddie Murphy, this spooky yet funny ride is a real treat, but watch out for unwanted hitchhikers.

It's a Small World
A classic Disney ride that celebrates our diverse cultures. This boat ride features hundreds of animatronic dolls wearing various national costumes as they sing "It's a Small World." This one is a must-see.

Peter Pan's Flight
This ride would've been enjoyable if not for the long line we had to endure to get there. On this one you get to travel on a pirate ship that flies you through the magical world of Peter Pan.

Mickey's PhilharMagic
A 3D show with Donald Duck as the wacky host. Get to watch classic Disney films with a funny twist.

Cinderella's Golden Carousel
Of course, a visit to Magic Kingdom isn't complete without a carousel ride. I promised my daughter we'd ride this one together, and we surely did. That's a Kodak moment for you.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Visit the Hundred Acre Woods and all its lovable characters in this ride recommended for young children.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant
Another ride for the little ones that the not-so-little-ones should experience too. This is a classic ride where you control how high or low you want to fly.

Mad Tea Party
Speaking of classics, this teacup ride kids love is big enough to accommodate the young at heart.

Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
On this ride you get to experience what it feels like to be a racecar driver, well, almost. Enjoyed this one as well, lines are long though.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority
This was as close to Space Mountain as I could get. Take a relaxing ride over Tomorrowland and give yourself a much-needed break.

Stitch's Great Escape
This one's a blast! Here you play the part of a guard-in-training for the Galactic Federation and your duty is to watch over dangerous alien prisoners. However, something goes wrong and the prisoner, Stitch, escapes. You get to experience Stitch's playful antics, saliva and all.

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
A can't-miss ride based on Toy Story 2. This one is a bit similar to the Toy Story Mania ride at Hollywood Studios wherein you aim and fire at certain targets. Rode this one with my husband and yes, he won again.

Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor
This one is hilarious! An interactive show with Mike Wazowski, the one-eyed monster from Monster's Inc., as host. My husband became an unwilling participant of the show, which made it extra funny. Ah, sweet revenge.

Disney Dreams Come True Parade
We got a very good view of this parade and saw all the beloved Disney characters up close.

Toontown Hall of Fame Tent
Get to meet other Disney characters, take pictures and get their autographs.

Fireworks Above Cinderella's Castle
To bring your day at Magic Kingdom to a memorable close, watch this wondrous fireworks display above Cinderella's Castle. This was so enchanting that I totally forgot to take photos.

RIDES/ATTRACTIONS WE MISSED;

The Enchanted Tiki Room
Tom Sawyer Island
The Hall of Presidents
Dream Along with Mickey
Ariel's Grotto
Astro Orbiters

RIDES/ATTRACTIONS WE INTENTIONALLY MISSED;

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
The Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm
Space Mountain
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
Judge's Tent
Donald's Boat
