Have you ever done a detox?

I ask this because my husband and I are going to attempt the impossible - we are going on a mild detox for a week. Yep, mild as opposed to total detox simply because we are wimps Just kidding, we didn't want to overwhelm our bodies so we decided to start out mildly. This means we won't be eating any meat, poultry, dairy and other foods high in fat, sugar and carbs. Our whole diet will now consist mostly of veggies, fruits and moderate servings of seafoods such as salmon and tuna. We are also changing our cooking oil from canola to extra virgin olive oil and our rice from white to brown.

We will be trying this for a week and then slowly extend it until we get used to our new diet.I think the biggest problem I will face is caffeine withdrawal - no coffee, diet soda and chocolates is just too much for me to think about right now. But we really need to change our diet because we've gained weight over the past 2 years, I think i gained around 20 pounds. And we also don't feel as healthy as we used to, we get tired easily.

The funny thing is our daughter is a perfect example of someone who eats healthy. Since she was a baby I trained her to eat more veggies and fruits than meat and poultry. She also doesn't drink sodas and eat hard candies. So I thought if I could teach her to do that why not follow my own advice and try to eat healthy?

I've thought of doing this before but I always found excuses not to. But now I feel motivated to do it and I feel it's about time. So tomorrow we begin our first step to a healthier lifestyle, please wish us luck.... we will surely need it.

How would you describe your diet? Have you ever done a detox?

Can I count my two pregnancies & breastfeeding periods?

I basically ate nuts, fruit, raw veg and the occasional bloody steak for 3 years. With water!

I have never detoxed, but have been on a pretty strict low GI diet for years. Initially there was no caffeine and I hated not having chocolate. Now I allow myself some. Good luck with it.

Little Angry Doll, come to think of it when i was pregnant with my daughter I managed to lay off the chocolates, coffee and soda. After that, well, that's a different story, lol.

Johanna, thanks! Does GI mean glycemic index? I've heard great things about that as well. Yeah, my main issue will be the caffeine withdrawal, I'm so used to having my daily caffeine fix to get me through the day. I wonder how I would get by without my usual coffee, or diet soda or hershey bar

Thanks guys for the comments!
