How to make family time more fun
November 29th 2007 01:41
Hubby and I have an understanding that he can work as hard as he can, plus overtime if he wants to, during the weekdays. But come weekend, it's family time. If he doesn't adhere to this policy, there will be hell to pay - or maybe doing dishes for a week.
But sometimes weekends can also be a time of tense negotiations in order to determine where to go or what to do. Well, two weekends ago, our super-savvy seven year old (say that 10 times) came up with a great plan. Each family member will be assigned one weekend when they are free to decide what activity the family should do.
After a unanimous decision we put the new policy into action and for the first weekend kiddo got to choose. She opted to go to the beach on Saturday and then to the mall on Sunday - which we did. The following weekend was my turn and of course I wanted to go to Home Depot and kick-start our Christmas decorating. On Sunday we went to the movies. (Note: Bee Movie = Funny!)
This weekend will be hubby's turn and I'm starting to wonder what his plans are, I hope it's not alphabetizing his reference books
Planning activities based on each family member's interest is a great way to honor their individuality while spending quality time with the whole gang. You'll also be surprised at what you learn about someone you thought you already knew.
Speaking of fun, visit Amateur Artists' blog, he just posted some cool flash animations on his site.
