My First Tarot Card Reading

February 2nd 2008 12:47
Years ago a friend of mine introduced me to a palm reader. Now, I'm not a huge believer of fortune telling but I'm also not one to shy away from an opportunity. And so I had my palm read and it was actually a fascinating experience. After the reading I went home and wrote down what the palm reader told me, I don't recall everything she said but I do remember she mentioned my first child will be a girl and that I was going to marry someone who was a few years younger than me. Both came true.

Nevertheless I still don't take fortune telling seriously and I think even the fortune tellers themselves will tell you that a person's destiny still lies in his/her own hands. My view on this subject is, if you want to have your fortune told then do it but don't take it too seriously. You are still the one who controls your destiny.

This afternoon we went to the annual Chinese New Year festival in our locale. My husband spotted a sign that said "Tarot Reading" and immediately pulled me towards its direction. Shortly afterwards we were waiting in line to have our fortunes told, there was an old Chinese man shuffling a deck of tarot cards and writing down notes on his small notebook.

Soon it was my turn, the first thing he asked me was what I did for a living. I was tempted to say, "Why don't we ask the cards?" but of course I didn't.I answered his question then he shuffled the cards and asked me to pick five cards. Out of those five cards he asked me to pick four which will represent the four seasons. The fifth card was sort of the summary of my fortune for the whole year.

He smiled and told me the cards I picked were the best cards he'd seen today and that it reveals I will have a booming good year (his words). He also said I'll be successful career-wise and in the homefront. I asked him something that's been bothering me for some time and inquired if he thinks it will be resolved this year. He closed his eyes and said there is a possibility it will be resolved between August to October. I'm keeping that in mind to see if it comes true.

All in all my first tarot reading was interesting, I'm still not a huge believer but the experience was entertaining.

For those interested in the meaning of these tarot cards, this website has some info.

A couple of years ago, my cousin suggested me to go to her clairvoyant for a reading. Out of curiosity, I went.
There was one thing I will always remember that completed shocked me, was when she said (out of the blue, without asking any questions) "You should go to Germany" then immediately asked "You speak German right?"

Just a little background - I majored in German at uni, spent a year studying in Germany and have been wanting to go back ever since. But I had told her none of this. She just came out with it.

Although, apparently, even herself explained to me - these things are more about giving you a choice, different opportunities in life. Like she'll tell me "You have a choice. You can choose to leave now, and then such and such will be good for you, or staying and such and such might happen and it'll still work out but not as well as you dreamed of"

She said any "fortune teller" that tells you directly something will definitely happen - is lying.

Hi Hope.. or is that High Hopes now?

I read your story with interest. I use the cards for counselling professionally and really enjoy helping people get 'unstuck.' There is too much to explain, best for critics to go and see for themselves, but of course like plumbers, there are good ones and bad ones... I like to think I'm okay.

I work the Mind body Spirit Expo's, psychic fairs and parties, and a shop as well as private clinets and they keep asking me back... so I must be doing something right.

Have any of my predictions come true?

Too many to count.

Ahmed, I read your post on your blog and it made me laugh! That poor psychic, you probably traumatized her Let me guess, your real problem is number 3 right?

Amy, that's amazing! Thanks for sharing, that clairvoyant you talked to is right, it is us who makes the choices. Have you ever watched Psychic Challenge? It's a show wherein several psychics are tested on their abilities. Some of them were really good, one of them was able to describe what happened in a crime scene down to where the body was found. Eerie.

Lilla,
Hello my dear, nice to hear from you again. I didn't know you're alos a tarot reader. Do you do it the same way as the Chinese guy I described above? Or is tarot reading performed and interpreted differently? I asked him to write down the cards I picked and looked it up on a website to see what the cards mean.

Hi Hope,

It's true each card has an individual meaning, but the clairvoyance of it all comes in looking at them 'combined.' It is here a psychic will get pictures, words, and feelings about current and future events... it is from this place of understanding that a good tarot card reader will draw his or her interpretation.

I think we all have the ability to do this, but perhaps (with bills to pay), not the desire... you'll notice that most clairvoyant Tarot card readers are getting on in years (and probably paid all the bills) by the time it develops into fully blown premonition.

You Chinese guy sounds like that type of reader and I would need to also know the positions of each card, and the particular 'spread' that he used to read from. There are so many variables.

But if you like, you can tell me the cards names and I can give you a rough indication (randomly) if they are dark or light, good or bad, troubles or solutions ahead.

It is lovely to see you back here too...

Thank you so much Lilla, the guy who did my reading wasn't very detailed in his interpretations. That's why I asked him to write down the cards I picked so I can look it up. I paid only $5 so I can't complain, lol.

These are the cards I picked from left to right:

Four of wands
Knight of pentacles
Six of wands
Three of pentacles
Seven of pentacles

Thanks in advance for the interpretation! What you do is really fascinating, I know most of us here will agree.
