Interesting school in Arizona

November 3rd 2008 16:02
If you live in Tucson, Arizona, you might want to look into a school called Accelerated Learning Laboratory. This charter school which was founded in 1999 offers advanced classes and groups students, not by age, but according to their academic and social skills. Currently, the school enrolls Preschool and K-12 students and has a student population of 250. Here's a well-written article on the said school from the Arizona Daily Star for more info.

Further information is available at the school's website.

I browsed through their website and the school looks both interesting and promising. Wish we lived nearby so we can check out the school more closely.

Cole Comes Home

October 22nd 2008 00:38
I can only imagine the horror this little boy went through after being abducted from his home. Cole Puffinburger was taken from his home by 2 suspected drug dealers, leaving his mom and her boyfriend bound and gagged. The abduction is believed to be in connection to Cole's grandfather who apparently stole money from the drug dealers.

Thankfully, the people who abducted Cole set him free and the boy was later found by a bus driver in Las Vegas. I'm so amazed at this little boy's courage, he reportedly approached a bus driver and asked the driver to take him home. He was then taken to a hospital where doctors examined him. Reports said the boy was physically unharmed. No doubt that this incident has been traumatic for him though.

Cole is said to be back with his family but investigations are ongoing. I do hope Cole receives the proper emotional and mental support he needs as a result of his traumatic experience.

The latest update on this case can be found here.

What do you think about this case?

Where is Caylee?

October 20th 2008 05:11
I've been keeping a close eye on this case involving a young mother, Casey Anthony, and her missing 3 year old daughter, Caylee. The toddler has been missing since June and to date has not been found. What really struck me about this case is the peculiar way Casey has acted since the disappearance of her child. I believe in giving a person the benefit of the doubt, but if you've been following this case, I'm pretty sure you too are starting to question her innocence. The way events have unraveled these past few months does paint Casey in a bad picture.

Recently, Casey Anthony has been charged with a seven-count indictment, including first-degree murder. I sincerely hope, for the sake of the missing little girl, that her mother is innocent and that Caylee will come home to her family soon.

A Profoundly Gifted Child in the News

September 8th 2008 05:57
Here's a very interesting article about Colin Carlson, a 12 year old profoundly gifted child who is taking classes at the University of Connecticut. Take note, he's already a sophomore in college majoring in ecology and evolutionary biology and he plans on pursuing environmental studies as his second major. Aside from that, he wants to attain a doctorate in biology and enter law shool by age 20. Amazing!

The Rise and Fall of A Prodigy

May 13th 2008 14:24
"Lost Genius", a book by Kevin Bazzana, chronicles the life of a piano prodigy named Ervin Nyiregyhazi. I must admit I've never heard of Nyiregyhazi.or his music until now.

Read the book review from the Chicago Tribune. I also found a short clip of him playing the role of Franz Liszt in the movie"The Lost Zeppelin" (he's the one playing the piano).
