Parents Behaving Badly

Parenting is indeed very challenging; we are entrusted with a great responsibility to nurture a child intellectually, emotionally, physically and spiritually. But, it is also one of the most fulfilling things in the world; to see your child grow up into a well-rounded, responsible and happy individual is priceless.
Watching the news lately, specifically the Nancy Grace show, I shudder at the increasing number of parents who are, to put it mildly, behaving badly. We hear about a child who was left at a Walmart, an infant who was born high on meth, the body of a newborn thrown in a dumpster, and the horrible list goes on.
I am horrified that in an age when various contraceptives are available for those who aren't ready to be parents, in a country that has safe haven laws, in a society where adoption isn't looked down upon, there are still those who choose to do something as foolish as leaving a child in a store or as cruel as ending the life of an innocent child.
Look, I'm not one to judge, but regardless of the circumstances these parents were in, it still doesn't justify their actions. There are options, good options in fact.
It just makes me sad and angry to see an innocent child traumatized, or worse, his/her life cut short because of the selfishness of some parents.
As John W. Whitehead said, "Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see."
Let's love our kids and more importantly, let's give them their right to live.
