The Heelys Phenomena
December 3rd 2007 05:38
I started becoming aware of these shoes a year ago while at the mall with my daughter. There were several kids who passed us by wearing shoes that had wheels on the heels. It turned out to be a new brand of shoes aptly called Heelys.
Since then my daughter has been asking us to buy her a pair. At first I said no, it looked dangerous. Then as time went by and I saw more and more kids wearing them, the Heelys bug bit me. I found myself visiting several shoe outlets carrying the brand, but was always told it was out of stock.
This changed yesterday when visiting a sporting good store. There it was, a few Heelys model displayed on the shelves. My daughter saw it too and her eyes lit up. It's a good thing they had one in her size and to top it off they were having a sale. We bought her Heelys at 15% off ,not bad.
Here's the model that she chose, it's called SHIMMER 7175
It's important to read the warning and instructions before letting your child put on a pair. There are also protective gear to wear to minimize the risk of injury. Moving with Heelys on takes a bit of practice, it's different from roller skates. One foot should be in front of the other and not side by side.
Heelys comes in a variety of colors and models, I've heard they are making adult-sized models too.
I'm sure the inventor of these shoes will be having a very good Christmas this year.
