The Lowest of Low

This news just makes my blood boil!
My husband told me something he heard on the news this morning - it was about an assistant teacher who stole a student's lunch money on several occasions. Stealing the lunch money of a student? Where's your conscience? And to think you're a teacher! What's more, the student she took the money from has severe autism and cannot speak.
The mother of the student noticed that her daughter would go straight to the fridge when she came home from school. That poor kid!
I found more details online, here's a link to an article on the LA Times.
I'm glad they caught the teacher red-handed. I know there are many good teachers out there but as a parent with a child who attends public school, I'm disheartened whenever I hear news like these. Just last week there was news of a teacher being caught having sexual relations with a student. It's shocking the number of times similar cases have occurred these past five years.
When we take our kids to school or see them off at the bus stop, we are entrusting them to you, dear school officials and teachers. Your duty as educators isn't merely to educate them, but also to make sure they are safe while they are within school premises. The last thing we as parents need to hear is that the person bullying them for their lunch money or the person sexually harassing them is their teacher.
This has to stop!
