Alex the Parrot

This is a 2-year old clip which was aired on Good Morning America about an amazing parrot named Alex. As we all know, parrots can mimic words and sounds. I had a parrot when I was young, she was white and the only thing she learned to say was her name - Sharon. But Alex was different, it appears he can actually "think." Sadly, Alex died in 2007. I know I can't embed this video here, so here's the link to the clip.

Confident Parenting

I really like this website called 5min Life Videopedia which features a wide array of short videos in a variety of topics. One example is this video by Kimberley Clayton Blaine where she and other mons talk about "How to Reclaim Your Mommy Confidence." You can check out more videos here.

Watch This

Each child is different and as parents we must learn how to nurture each child according to their personalities. For example, being overly critical to a shy child will further cause that child to withdraw inward. On the other hand, showering too much undeserved praise on a child also has negative effects. I found this touching movie that is especially meant for parents and educators. The movie is about honoring a child's individuality and finding the right balance to further nurture that child. Please, watch this.

Another Great Site for Educational Videos

I'm always on the look-out for websites that are informative and child-friendly. Which is why I'm so pleased to share with you a site called teachers.tv. This website has lots of educational vidoes for and by teachers and parents. Videos are arranged by age group, subject matter and office title/position. The Duke University Multimedia webpage offers free educational videos made at the Duke University Mathematics Department Multimedia Classroom. Those interested to further their knowledge of mathematical concepts and theory should check out the recently added lectures as well as the lecture series.

The Mom Song

This song has been going around the net for some time now and of course I'd like to share it with you. The song is titled "Momsense" by Anita Renfroe, sung to the tune of the William Tell Overture. I think this song is brilliant and hilarious; it encapsulates what moms usually tell their kids as they grow up. Here it is:

Since Halloween is almost here, this week's public domain movie is the 1945 film "Casper the Friendly Ghost." I remember watching Casper animated movies when I was young; I thought Casper was cute Well, I still do. Enjoy the movie!

It's been 7 years since the tragic incident occurred...a fateful day that shook the whole world. Everyone watched transfixed, helpless, lost for words, mixed emotions raging in our hearts. That day, thousands were lost - fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends.....heroes. As we look back on 9/11, let us say a prayer for all the victims and the grieving families they left behind. And let us make a solemn promise that each day, in our own little way, to help make this world a safer place to live in, for us, for our children and the future generation.
