Boo! It's Halloween!

October 23rd 2008 02:39
This year my daughter is dressing up as a fairy for Halloween. She's been asking me and her dad if we could also wear costumes (we've never done so before). We're still unsure though what we'll wear if we do decide to follow our daughter's suggestion, but I think it would be hilarious if we did. Who, or sould I say, what will you be this Halloween?

Here are some educational links to Halloween facts, lesson plans and activities:

I figured why not share these links that will help us and our children learn more about money and how to properly handle our finances. You can use these resources as lesson plan ideas or for personal use. With everything that's going on with our economy right now, we need to learn how to spend our hard-earned cash wisely (well, at least I do).

The Solar System

My young daughter is very interested in science, the solar system to be exact. When her dad went on a trip to N.Y. he brought back a nice gift - a 3D Adventure Projector from National Geographic. The kit contains several slides, 3D glasses, a projector plus a DVD that narrates the voyage. What you do is pop the DVD in the player, get the projector and slides ready, turn off the lights and put on the 3D glasses as you travel to each planet of the solar system. Way cool.

Free Educational Videos

September 10th 2008 03:16
I made a new discoverey and so far I'm lovin' what I see. The KidsKnowIt Network is a website dedicated for curious, young learners interested in subjects like Chemistry, Geography, History and Spelling. The topics are arranged in separate databases for easy access, my fave so far is the Movie Database that has several short, educational films. The movies are presented in an interesting manner and ends with a short quiz. The student is required to score 80% or higher to pass the quiz.

Check out the KidsKnowIt website here.

Thinking of Babies

September 3rd 2008 00:25
I don't normally announce very personal details on this blog but.....hubby and I have been trying to get pregnant this year and we really need your prayers. Thing is, I'm a few years short of 40 (although I still feel like I'm in my 20s - honest ) and as we all know the older a woman gets the harder it is to get pregnant, plus the risk factors also doubles after the age of 35. So if you can, please whisper a little prayer for us today - thank you!

For those of you who also have babies in mind, here's a tool that might be of help - an Interactive Pregnancy Calendar from iVillage.Com

Have you heard of BigFish?

August 28th 2008 01:34
No, it's not the kind you see at your favorite sushi bar. I'm talking about BigFish Games, a website that let's you try out their games for free online. You can download any game you choose and play it for an hour, sort of test-driving before you buy. Games are grouped together according to type making it easier for you to choose which one/s to download. They also have games for kids.

If you like puzzles or word games (like yours truly) be sure to check out the following:

Take A Free IQ Test Online

August 18th 2008 06:24
I chanced upon a website called IQ Test Labs which lets you take a timed IQ test for free. After the test you will be given a detailed analysis of your results along with suggested careers in the areas you excel at.

I took the test and scored within the "Higher Average" rank. I particularly scored high on the Verbal and Spatial skills and, not surprisingly, scored low on Math. It's also interesting to note that writing and photography are among the recommended careers listed on my report. Writing and photography are in fact part of my current job description, so that's good to know.
