Weekly Book List
October 18th 2006 00:45
Every Saturday, my daughter and I visit our local public library and pick out 6 books to read for the week. We've been doing this since she was 41/2 and it has been both a fun and educational activity for both of us. Some of the books we pick are easy readers, ones which she can read on her own. We also pick out books that are more difficult, these are the ones I read to her before going to bed.
I thought it would be nice to share our weekly book list and hopefully this will be of help to other parents out there in choosing books for their children.
So here's our book list for this week, Oct. 16 to 22:
1. IF YOU TAKE A MOUSE TO SCHOOL by Laura Numeroff
I really like Ms. Numeroff's books, we've read her other book titled "IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE". The text is fairly simple to read and the illustrations are adorable. As the title implies, it's a story about what will happen if a mouse goes to school.
2. THE BERENSTAIN BEARS' MOVING DAY by Stan and Jan Berenstain
I love this book series and we have read many books about the Berenstain Bears. What I like about it is that each book deals with a situation children can relate to. In this book, for example, the Berenstain family are moving and Brother Bear isn't too thrilled about it. It explores what a child feels about changes.
3. THE BERENSTAIN BEARS' IN THE DARK by Stan and Jan Berenstain
I told you we love the Berenstain Bears. This one deals with common childhood fears such as being afraid of the dark. I read these books to my daughter and then we discuss the story relating it to her own situation. It's a good way to foster communication with your children.
4. CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE HOSPITAL by Margaret and H.A. Rey
Another book series we are very fond of. Curious George is a little monkey who is always getting into mishaps because of his curiosity. In this book, Curious George had to go to the hospital because he swallowed something and once in the hospital he discovered many interesting things.
5. CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO A CHOCOLATE FACTORY by Margaret and H.A. Rey
Yet another adventure by the ever curious monkey George. This time he discovers how chocolates are made. Curious George may always be getting into mishaps but the stories always ends with him saving the day.
6. THE TOOTH BOOK by Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss has written hundreds of books and each of his books are quite imaginative. He uses characters that are adorably weird and writes in a way that is fun to read. This one is all about teeth and is under their Bright and Early Books for Beginning Readers so it's very easy for kids to read.
There you have it, our weekly book list. 'Til next week's book list...keep on reading!
