Who is the Better Person? Part 2
October 14th 2006 15:49
For those who are waiting for the second part of this story, here it is.
A few hours later my neighbor stopped by my house again to return the money. By that time my companions have gone home. She thanked me profusely and told me to extend her thanks to the guy who lent her money. I assured her I will.
In the months to come I saw my two companions off and on, Acquaintance A still had a lot of money and went to church religiously. Acquaintance B was still struggling to make ends meet and missed church often.
Then last year Acquaintance A's husband suddenly got sick, apparently he had a liver problem. Most of their finances went into his hospital bill and meds. Things got so bad for them financially that she borrowed money from us. Someone else also chipped in, it was Acquaintance B who by this time had gotten back on his feet and is starting to earn a living.
So what is the lesson here?
1. The law of Karma, what goes around comes around.
2. A religious person isn't necessarily a good person.
3. We aren't defined by what we have but by who we are.
These are the lessons I hope to teach my little girl, that she be, above all, a compassionate human being.
By the way, Acquaintance A and I no longer see each other and Acquaintance B is no longer an acquaintance...he's now my good friend.

Acquiatance A and I have lost touch, but I do wish her the best and hope she indeed learned something from the ordeal she went through.
