Why do you blog?
October 27th 2007 22:20
Blogging networks are sprouting like daisies in springtime and many writers are itching to get started blogging. In truth though, blogging takes a lot of commitment, like a child you must nurture your blog so that it can grow. That's why before signing up for a blog or sending in that application to be a blogger, one must ask him/herself:
Why do I want to blog?
What do I expect from my blog?
How often can I blog?
Unfortunately when I applied to be a blogger on Orble I didn't take the time to ponder these questions. Yes I did blog religiously at first, I love my topic and I enjoyed the community here on Orble. But at the back of my mind I also wanted to earn money - fast. And when this didn't happen I was of course disheartened and my commitment to blogging wavered.
So I'm sitting here asking myself do I still want to continue GiftedParenting or shall I bid it goodbye? And my answer is.....I'm sticking around. This is my baby and I can't let it go (for now, at least). I guess I should focus more on what this blog can do for others rather than what this blog can do for me.
Just want to say Kudos to all Orblers who have been blogging steadfastly. And please whack me on my virtual head if you notice me procrastinating again.

primarily, though it is to keep me sane because what i study at university is dry and mundane and if i didn't write about something else i'd be in some mental institution.

When the pocket money didnt happen, I had already found myself a new creative outlet. A place where my writing could be commented on by anyone and I really like having an audience, no matter how small.
Now Im working full time, its harder and harder to maintain this baby. Im a busy woman! But Im not ready to let it go quite yet...Its about the only creative outlet I have left!

I blog because I love to write, and I sometimes want people to read what I write!
Being signed up to Orble also means I'm forced to write regularly, which is really good for my writing practice.

In essence - the only one's who actually turn a buck are the cluey one's who start the site's up in the first place.
That said - it's all about networking - and the tangible benefits you derive from that.
It's not about money (though I have heard of like-minded blogosphere colleagues getting together and kicking off a business venture together) - but the associated friendships, support and fun that comes with the whole experience.
Besides - you never know which book publisher, TV exec or financier you have as a 'virtual' admirer.

If one day my blogs actually make me a few bucks - that's just icing on the cake.
My brain is the size of a peanut so if I don't empty it out on a regular basis by writing it will eventually explode!
