Why It's Not Good to be Too Nice

I don't usually post personal issues on my blog, but today I felt the need to rant. You see, I'm one of those soft-hearted people who have been taken advantaged of time and time again. And although I'm not as gullible as I once was, there are still times when compassion clouds my judgment.
As hard as it is to admit, there are certain people in my life who only remembers me when they need help. it's like a one-sided relationship; I give, they receive...end of story. it's not like I'm expecting anything tangible in return, I mean would it hurt to ask me how I'm doing from time to time or to greet me on my birthday?
I've realized that it's really not good to be too nice, sometimes one needs to be assertive. And when all chances have been exhausted, perhaps it's time to re-assess the relationship.
